In order to help our students succeed, we focus on directly developing the skills that are needed for opportunities that we provide as well as future opportunities. To do so, we invite successful business men and women to come and speak to our chapters about various topics and provide them with the ability to have one-on-one contact with current professionals. Speakers range from local business partners to Ludington BPA alumni to admissions officers from colleges throughout Michigan. Workshops that are provided through our organization are not only available to members, but any interested students within our school.
Some of our speakers and topics have included:
Charles Patrello, Primerica VP: Communication & Interpretation
David Ladd, Adm Director, Baker College: College Readiness
Allen Stone, HR Professional: Communication & Goal Setting
Makenna Doyle, Northwood University: Interview Skills and Resume Writing
Laura Egerer, Northwood University: Business Careers
Victor Burwell, FloraCraft VP: Management and Manufacturing

Baker College of Muskegon, Michigan hosts an annual competition for high school students in western Michigan known as the "Baker Challenge" each December. Members are able to compete individually or as teams in events such as "Shark Tank", where members are given materials and required to create a product and present it, and a "Social Media" challenge where members must create an online presence to sell a product. Members that place at this competition receive only bragging rights, as it works as a fun precursor to actual competitions put on by the State and National BPA associations. This challenge provides Ludington students the ability to creatively test their competitive skills before attending Leadership Conferences later in the year.
Sports & Entertainment Conference
Every year the Michigan BPA Association puts on a Sports and Entertainment conference for its BPA students, through a partnership with the Pistons. This conference allows students to learn more about sports management, marketing, advertising and public relations while interacting with those in each respective fields. Ludington BPA students are able to attend this conference held in early December annually, as it provides invaluable opportunities to those interested in such areas. Communicating with those that have succeeded in the sports industry allows members to gain insight into what these types of careers entail and what employers look for, as well as what kinds of skills are needed to succeed in each area.
